German Oppenheimer-Rodriguez, a longtime resident of the Bronx, died on August 13, 2014. He was 83.

Mr. Oppenheimer-Rodriguez was born on April 22, 1931 in Ponce, Puerto Rico to the late Carlos and Luz Maria (Rodriguez) Oppenheimer. He served in the United States Army during the time of the Korean War. On February 14, 1994 he married Loida Villegas.

Father, Grandfather, Great grandfather, brother and husband German Oppenheimer more popularly known as Oppy is in heaven with the Lord he loved so much and served so well. He lived a life dedicated to Christ, his work here was complete and God took him home. He is survived by his wife Vicki Oppenheimer, his children Yasmin Oppenheimer, German Oppenheimer, Evette Roncinske and Jason Oppenheimer, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Oppy served the postal service for many years as well as serving the church and all those in need including drug addiction counseling at Mercy and Truth Rehab in the Bronx. Oppy loved spending time with his family, joking, laughing, and teaching the works of Jesus like only he could. Rooting for both New York baseball teams, game shows, sweets, his great grandchildren, Puerto Rico, and Virginia were just a few of the many things that brought out that contagious Oppy smile. While he is no longer with us we are a blessed with beautiful memories, and the wonderful legacy of the man he was. German/Oppy/Papi/Abuelo will be loved forever and live in the hearts of all those he touched.

Visiting will be Friday 3-8pm, at Rock of Salvation Christian Church, 1179 Hoe Avenue, Bronx, where the family will also be gathering Saturday 9:30am for a prayer service. Interment will follow George Washington Memorial Park, Block KK, Lot 126, Section B, Grave 4, Paramus, New Jersey.
